Custom Polyclonal Antibodies

Having delivered high-quality polyclonal antibodies to biopharma, diagnostics, and academic scientists for 40+ years, Rockland has the wide-ranging expertise to efficiently drive your custom polyclonal antibody production project to a successful completion.

Every polyclonal antibody production project is customized to your specific needs and can cover any or all of the workflow steps—consultation, peptide or protein antigen production, antibody generation, purification, and conjugation of reporter molecules—with antibodies produced in a range of species, including New Zealand white rabbits, goats, sheep, chickens, rats, mice, and donkeys.

Our Custom Polyclonal Antibody Production Process

Each project is performed in distinct phases—and you decide if and when to initiate each phase.

Phase 1: Antigen Preparation

We can use a range of macromolecules as antigens, as long as they can be used under BSL-2 conditions, and can design and produce custom peptides and recombinant proteins.

  • Protein, recombinant or purified
  • Synthetic peptide
  • Modified peptide
  • Haptens
  • Whole cell lysate
  • Nucleic acid
  • Lipids
  • Carbohydrate complexes
  • And more (i.e. viruses, bacteria, toxins, etc.)

Phase 2: Polyclonal Antibody Development

During polyclonal antibody development, we immunize based on the schedule you request and can recommend an adjuvant to achieve your project goals. We provide a pre-bleed serum (5 mL) for screening in your labs and can also use our experience and monitoring of the antibody-mediated immune response to make recommendations prior to the collection of production bleeds.

Upon conclusion of the applied protocol, you are presented with the option of collecting a terminal bleed (this only applies to rabbits) or by extending your study for the collection of additional bleeds on a monthly basis.

Phase 3: Antibody Purification

After antibody development, we can use a number of different methods to purify your polyclonal antibodies.

  • Protein A purification
  • Protein G purification
  • Protein A/G purification
  • Affinity purification
  • IgG purification
  • IgY purification
  • And more (i.e. BMP, gold, latex beads, etc.)

Phase 4: Antibody Conjugation

We provide a wide array of customizable conjugation services to meet specific assay and reagent needs.

Conjugates include the following:

  • Biotin
  • Horseradish peroxidase (HRP)
  • Alkaline phosphatase (AP)
  • Fluorescent dyes

Our Antigen Specialization

We are experts in generating antibodies specific for post-translational modifications— including phospho-epitopes, acetylation, methylation, hydroxylation, ubiquitinylation, and more—using modified peptides, and can optimize peptide design and synthesis as well as recombinant protein design and preparation.
